some incredible artwork by jim denevan. his "sand" series has always been my favorite- i love the visual of the changing waves washing this all away.
jim is also the founder of "Outstanding in the Field", a traveling local culinary movement.

i was introduced to the work of bay area landscape architect Andrea Cochran by Casey (of K.I.D. Collective) a while ago- needless to say, I am obsessed with the spaces she creates.

gorgeous bouquets from sarah at saipua in red hook, brooklyn. i love how these feel like they could have been casually plucked during a fabulous morning walk, but are still slightly opulent and formal.

"the wave" is a competition entry by joshua beck and tom reiner, semi-finalists in a competition to design a new access pathway at san onofre state beach. i think the integration with the site, elevated view over the wetlands, and the niches to enjoy the ocean breeze from are particularly beautiful.

from new zealand's boskke- the innovative "sky planter", a self-watering plant container which claims to reduce watering of houseplants by up to 80%. The coolest part is how it hangs upside down for a this striking visual effect!

back to the philadelphia flower show. all of these images are from an incredible, incredible environment created by moda botanica of philadelphia. they built shipping containers into rooms, and each one was filled with flowers, plants, and accessories that created a different mood. some were mirrored, some were covered in graffiti, some had flowers covering the walls or hanging from the ceiling. it was edgy, thought provoking, and above all, beautiful. fittingly, they won best in show! the purple and silver table set-up is absolutely beyond.

today i went to the philadelphia flower show with some of my favorite friends for the first time ever. we saw so many visually inspiring, beautiful creations! i'll post some of my photos here and on flickr over the next couple of weeks as i start to comprehend the sheer amazingness.
i thought i would start with this display from beautiful blooms, which just happens to be my favorite neighborhood flower store. using thin wire, they suspended hundreds of bud vases filled with tiny blooms and colored water from a dropped ceiling. a simple concept with an incredible effect.

over at sunset magazine, there is a very cool tutorial showing how to make a hanging succulent garden. the impact of the large version pictured above would be incredible on against a blank wall, or an arrangement of three smaller frames could work for those of city-dwellers with space constraints. the texture here is so beautiful!
